If gifted teenager Santosh is to achieve independence, finish school, and escape the trap of slave-like migrant field labor, he has to overcome one main obstacle: the cruel paymaster Juze. In uncompromising terms, the film unmasks the dire poverty hidden only a short distance from the tourist resorts of India's Goa state. (Karlovy Vary International Film Festival)

inglês 52nd KVIFF – This movie was far too brutal for me. I appreciate that the Indian director tried to achieve perfect realism and didn’t bombard us with three hours of footage and Bollywood dances. It wouldn’t even suit a story such as this one. I also appreciate the effort to thoroughly portray the Indian world in the province of Goa in places a wealthy Western citizen just cannot get to. On the other hand, I struggled with Santosh and some moments from the movie, without which the movie could have easily been a short film and as such, I would rate it completely differently. I am not saying that the movie is downright bad, but it didn’t really dazzle me at that moment. ()
