The Romanov sisters were the most photographed princesses of their day, yet the world knew very little of the four girls in the official portraits. Interviews with leading historians, archive footage and dramatic reconstruction reveal the lives of Tsar Nicholas II's daughters - Olga, Tatiana, Maria and Anastasia - and the truth behind the fairy-tale images. The series reveals how the sisters' lives were influenced by the birth of their little brother Alexei, and how this forced them to become friends with Rasputin. Then the programme examines how drastically their lives changed during the First World War.
