Em 2003, um grupo de jovens encabeçado por Spencer Reinhard, um estudante de Lexington, no Kentucky, decide assaltar, vestindo-se de homens idosos, a biblioteca da Transylvania University. Tudo para roubar uma série de livros raros, com The Birds of America, de John James Audubon, à cabeça. É uma história real que correu mal e aqui é contada com recurso a entrevistas a pessoas reais e uma recriação do que aconteceu, misturando documentário e ficção. A não-ficção é, aliás, um campo em que o realizador, Bart Layton, que aqui assina o seu segundo filme, tem experiência: em 2012 saiu a sua primeira longa, um documentário que não teve estreia nas salas portuguesas chamado The Imposter. A heist movie about a robbery carried out by utterly stupid losers. Something like Logan Lucky but actually entertaining. Bart Layton has an obvious soft spot for bizarre true stories that are hard to believe (like his documentary The Imposter). And let him stick to it if he can make such pleasant films out of them. By the way, whoever makes the subtitles, in about the middle of the film they have a unique opportunity to use Jan Plavec’s famous motto “You haven’t got this far only to get this far”. Don’t waste it :D

Of the last heist movies I've seen, I found this one the least interesting because compared to the competition, where everyone had a well thought out plan, this one showed how not to do it, which is a welcome change, but not so attractive from the viewer's point of view. Unfortunately, it drags at times and lacks more creative charisma, but it's still better than average. 60%
