In this film, Jerry Lewis once again takes on multiple roles as he did in THE NUTTY PROFESSOR (1963). He plays an artist commissioned to paint in Paris who wants to take his psychiatrist girl friend Leigh along to celebrate their honeymoon. She, however, has three man-hating patients who cant do without her. Using a variety disguises, Lewis becomes the boy friend of each of the three patients. His charade is finally discovered and he nearly loses Leigh, but her now-cured patients convince her to take the vacation. After a long stretch with Paramount, this was Lewis first effort for Columbia and though the film did turn a profit, there were some embarrassingly lame ad schemes to help it do so--the kind Frank Tashlin would make fun of in WILL SUCCESS SPOIL ROCK HUNTER? Since the number three was in the title, Columbia sponsored a number of contests having to do with the number, and even let triplets into the theater for free, far from a financial risk, however, considering the mathematical improbability of triplets. Another "bright idea" was to start a "We Hate Men" fan club. Three beauties with little acting ability were chosen by Lewis to play the man-hating trio in the picture. They were former Miss America, Mary Ann Mobley, Gila Golan, a former Miss Israel, and Parrish, a former NBC "Color Girl." All got plenty of screen time, but none seem to have had star quality, and film moguls remained indifferent to them. The picture grossed more than $2.5 million for a fair profit.
