A luxurious SUV is parked in a random neighborhood in Buenos Aires. A young man gets in intending to steal it, but when he wants to take off, he can’t. The doors won’t respond, neither will the windows: suddenly, the 4x4 is an armored bunker, and the situation is desperate. The boy is locked in and on top of that, someone outside is controlling the vehicle and seems to have a plan. (Sitges Film Festival)

Um thriller que trabalha bem com um espaço pequeno, com desenvolvimentos imprevisíveis e credíveis. O personagem principal aqui entra numa situação desconfortável por sua própria culpa, mas três vezes merecidamente. Surpreendentemente, o espetador não fica irritado ou aborrecido por ele todo o tempo. Castigar os culpados e questionar para onde irá a situação são os motores do entretenimento aqui. Foi por isso que fiquei então ligeiramente desiludido com o final — esperava mais dum filme fresco e ousado do que apenas destacar o estado alarmante do crime na Argentina com uma conclusão patética. A nice little original survival thriller from Argentina! The story focuses on a thief who breaks into a car, but this is the biggest mistake of his life. The car has a highly sophisticated security system and there is simply no way to get out of it. The Argentinians work nicely with atmosphere and tension in the small space of such a 4x4 car and the protagonist has some pretty unpleasant moments there, especially when the owner speaks to him through the radio, which makes the film more interesting. The finale is unexpected and properly suspenseful. A fine short one-off. Story****, Action>No, Humor>No, Violence***, Entertainment****, Music***, Visual***, Atmosphere****, Suspense****. 7/10.

After initial misgivings about watching an hour and a half long minimalist thriller about a thief trapped inside a luxury SUV, I was quite skeptical about 4x4, but in the end, it turned out to be a very imaginative and dynamically fluent movie reminiscent of Joel Schumacher's Phone Booth. However, the unexpected direction in which the story went in the last third part of the movie, where there is a very literal social critique of insecurity on the streets of Argentina, literally put the whole movie on another level. 4x4 is an unexpectedly powerful movie, which not only goes down the road of straightforward entertainment within its genre but also ambitiously draws attention to much more serious problems in the modern world. In the final, it is quite a devastating spectacle. [Sitges 2019]

Um thriller convincente sobre um ladrão que, enquanto tenta roubar um carro, deixa-se passar a perna por um médico esperto que deixou o seu carro converter numa armadilha escurecida e à prova de bala para os potenciais criminosos. No espaço modesto de uma rua e um interior com tração às quatro rodas, foi criado um filme inteligentemente concebido, habilmente escrito e dirigido que evolui em direções inesperadas. Começa com um tema apelativo de um homem preso com recursos limitados num carro, discutindo junto do painel de instrumentos com o seu proprietário, primeiro utilizando de forma inovadora o ambiente do carro para várias situações dramáticas-cómicas, depois, na secção do meio, não mostra muito, mas acaba por se desenvolver a partir de uma história sobre ser ensinado uma dura lição como castigo de roubar para um inteligente comentário crítico-social, rico em reviravoltas surpreendentes, sobre a vida em cidades com elevadas taxas de criminalidade, a necessidade de seguir as regras da decência comum e de fazer justiça pelas próprias mãos.
