A descoberta da obra de Sirk foi crucial para Fassbinder, que aqui como usa All that Heaven Allows, transpondo-o para a Alemanha dos anos 70, radicalizando a diferença de idade entre os dois amantes pelas diferenças culturais e raciais. Mas Fassbinder não se limitou a transpor a história do filme de Sirk para a Alemanha do seu tempo, pois, como disse: “não se é forçado a refazer alguma coisa simplesmente porque ela nos pareceu bela. A beautiful film about how love can flourish at any age and regardless of who the lovers are or who the ones in love are. This is a film without sex, and it really benefits from it. Furthermore, it beautifully portrays how the love between two people can be a thorn in the side for others, as they live only to judge and hold prejudices. The scenes are breathtakingly powerful.
