I Drink Your Blood (1970)

inglês A bunch of wandering hippies discover very depraved entertainment and with the help of bloody Satanic rituals, they begin to shout their allegiance to the rulers of hell. Are you expecting a higher providence to punish them or that demons themselves will give them hell? No way. All you need is a little vengeful boy who finds a unique way to bring the heat to them. Well, a boy's ingenuity knows no bounds. The problem is that the boy's "scientific experiment" ends up a little out of control. This highly inventive plot helps to improve an otherwise completely trashy attempt at a movie in the grindhouse style. This results in a rather interesting spectacle with a bit of gore, crazy music, but unfortunately the positive characters are quite poorly written, and who, in the second act of the movie, behave as insanely and illogically as the evil and rabies-infected hippies, whom you would primarily expect it of. Otherwise, however, it's a fun and imaginative exploitation movie.

Les Raisins de la mort (1978)

inglês It is known that the French are a nation of winemakers. But what happens when this agricultural sector turns into an incubator for a weird contagion due to the use of pesticides? Jean Rollin presents a rather visually impressive demonstration of apocalyptic horror, in which the inhabitants of southern France turn into crazy monsters (apparently inspired by George A. Romero's The Crazies). After watching it you may think twice before drinking a bottle of wine, and decide to have a pint of beer instead. The shots of the depopulated South of France and the numerous ruins of abandoned houses have the right setting for a good atmospheric horror movie, however, it has a very sketchy storyline and the bafflingly illogical behaviour of all the characters is a problematic key sticking point. It's inadvisable to think too deeply about the actions of individual characters here, otherwise, it could irreversibly damage your experience. It's a real pity, they've tried hard to get the approval of horror fans, as it starts with a sufficiently interesting and spectacular horror sequence, which would give you proper nightmares with a better quality more pacy screenplay, and if the director gave better direction to the cast.

The Hunt (2020)

inglês So it seems that in 2020, the number one public enemy for the American people is not international terrorism, communism, crime, or a pandemic, it's political satire! It was clear from the beginning that the "big controversy" about The Hunt was just an exaggerated issue in a global context. The context is a profound political divide between the American left and right, and a significant percentage of Americans feel deeply moved by the mild spring breeze that was tickling their bottoms. After all, The Hunt is just a satirical action movie that indiscriminately wades into many political streams, without seemingly offering anything new, such as the series South Park which has been shouting about issues regularly for the last 15 years. Obviously, the problem is when political satire is presented quite so literally in a relatively big movie. The Hunt has already based a promotional campaign on this controversy after the not inconsiderable postponement of the premiere. At times it's an apt and humorous spectacle, and at other times it's quite unfocused and looks to be overcompensating for something. However, in the end, it's an action movie that tries it's hardest to surprise you and it's certainly not boring and it wouldn't hurt to see it.

Edogawa Rampo ryoki-kan: Yaneura no sanpo sha (1976)

inglês A light erotic drama about a voyeur who watches the personal lives of other tenants from the attic of an apartment building, and after emotionally succumbing to the wealthy landlady, he decides to take drastic action. It must be said that Watcher in the Attic goes at a very slow pace and does not offer nearly as much fun as it may seem at first glance. Nevertheless, it is a movie that delves into the themes of the secret desires of the human soul and eloquently outlines what society looked like in Japan in the 1920s. Leprechaun 4: In Space (1996)

inglês One of the strangest series of horror movies comes to us with a cosmic installment. This time, the leprechaun is bringing the heat to a space unit of empty green brains and mad scientists. Is it possible to comment on the completely random story at all? This is ideal for thick-skinned and hard-core audiences who like to enjoy crazy horror comedies. [The Shockproof Film Festival 2020]

Confusão nas Estrelas (1986)

inglês Coincidentally, I watched the B-movie Battle Beyond the Stars two days before the screening of this movie, and less than a day before, Dark Star, so I was ecstatic over the fact The Adventures of Taura included scenes taken from those two movies. Most of the footage used is of course newly shot material from the women's space prison, but it's still a cheap piece of garbage with all sorts of holes in its logic, bad continuity, and perhaps to be completist, everything else. Fred Olen Ray pulled out the cheapest tricks for this movie. Luckily, I didn't expect anything else. [The Shockproof Film Festival 2020]

Santo: Infraterrestre (2001)

inglês Santo: Infraterrestre is a load of Mexican baloney typical for their television shows, which, with its imbecilic plot and characters with completely random motivations, meets only the very marginal qualities of adventure movies, inasmuch as it's possible if any qualities can be talked about at all. When I think back to the intentions of the local villains, I find that I have absolutely no idea what it was really all about. One can laugh at how naive and bad it is, but this El Santo certainly does not have higher ambitions. [The Shockproof Film Festival 2020]

Nid de guêpes (2002)

inglês The Nest is a decently filmed action thriller that feels like a French variation of John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13, however, made with little innovation. In short, it's just a sort of suspenseful canapé. Nevertheless, the scene where a gang of thieves is driving along and starts whistling the Elmer Bernstein's theme to The Magnificent Seven has a totally iconic flair.

Sex Madness (1938)

inglês This was much less entertaining than the propaganda movie Reefer Madness, in which the effects of smoking marijuana were exaggerated to such a ridiculous extent that it was actually hilarious. Sex Madness, which warns of sexually transmitted diseases, maybe a little closer to real science, yet it is still an incredibly imbecilic lecture (social guidance) encouraging "wholesome marital cohabitation" and it is giving meaningless warnings against deceptive doctors. In terms of evaluation as a regular movie, this is the absolute pits.

Cassandra Crossing (1976)

inglês I became excited from the first continuous shot where the camera breaks through the clouds over the peaks of the Alps and descends over Lake Geneva towards the city centre and ends at the World Health Organization buildings, where the story begins. Now that's what I call that a breathtaking visual introduction! Then starts the gripping political thriller about a viral infection brought onto an international train, which is diverted to the sinister crossing of Cassandra. What happens next I will leave for the viewer to find out. It has a stellar cast, solid direction, and a very exciting storyline - what more could you want?
