O Profundo Mar Azul (2011) Boo!

inglês My God, this was some crazy shit. I understand that the film was made by artists for artists, but I must admit that apart from acting performances, there is nothing else I would like to praise in this film. And if I wanted to play an expert, I would say that the film strongly irritated me, but I won’t pull my punches and simply say that it pissed me off terribly. It’s hard when the depression that is the main feature of the film is created by completely inappropriate and crazy music, which would force every viewer to put a bullet in their head. Because of that music, I couldn’t even finish the movie. But if nothing else, I opened my horizons and realized that even such films could exist. If I forced myself to be objective, I’d give it two stars at least for the acting performances, but I couldn’t do it with this one, so I’m going for Boo!

The First Grader (2010)

inglês The channel Cinemax made me really happy on Sunday morning. The First Grader is officially a British movie, but it tells a story of an old man from a small village in the middle of Kenya. From a country that was under the rule of Great Britain for a long time, finding someone who would put the today’s reality of this country right is a rare feat. And I must say that I found it very nice. It makes me incredibly happy when someone is able to appreciate something that we take completely for granted. And you know what? Even though we’ve got these possibilities, we just keep complaining and criticizing. This film is not only about the self-reflection of one nation that has decimated Kenya, but above all about people, about the humility that every European or American should look for in this film, because even though it is a very unusual story and quite incomprehensible to many people, it still has a lot to offer.

Bad Behaviour (1993)

inglês I totally understand why the film has no ratings at this site. The actors are nothing much at first glance, the poster is absolutely awful, and as soon as the film starts, it’s hard enough to even follow the subtitles because it’s visually about as good as a kid cartoon made by a real kid. I had a huge problem with even keeping my attention on this movie. When it ended, I realized that I’d been sitting in a pub sipping on a beer for the last 20 minutes. That happens when you stumble upon a movie on the Czech Television no one has ever heard of, which turns out to be deserved.

Jackass 3.5 (2011)

inglês I laughed and sometimes I felt sick. Sometimes a little sicker than I’m used to. So that’s actually the Jackass standard. What is no longer the standard is what happened after Jackass 3.5 was released. Ryan Dunn got killed first in a car accident, and then the press started to harass the boys, almost made them look like some junkies. The power of money is undeniable. I wonder if there will ever be another sequel.

Fly Away Home (1996)

inglês Saturday morning on Czech Television together with this relaxed, nice family film, which will certainly not disappoint with its story. I even remember the moment when this film was a novelty in our video rental. Jesus, time really flies...

Parked (2010)

inglês The Irish once again gave me a brutal thrashing full of reality and black humor. I often think that even if those people were at death’s door, they would come up with some catchphrase that would immediately ruin the atmosphere. Parked is a beautiful yet sad film. That happens when you watch a great realistic drama full of wonderful acting performances and unique characteristics of the given countries. Maybe that’s why I like watching European movies so much.

Hemingway & Gellhorn (2012) (filme de TV)

inglês I understand that Hemingway was a pretty unbearable character with all his drinking, but I think that when the creators decided to turn his life into a biopic, in which one of his wives also played an important part, they could at least make it in the way that I would enjoy. The acting performances are great, but the movie suffers from being incredibly long and very boring.

Missä kuljimme kerran (2011)

inglês I’m always quite looking forward to Finnish movies. Their films are special, as is the whole nation. This film also appealed to me all the more because I thought I would learn more about their generally quite turbulent past. The film actually explained to me that between the two world wars, the Finns were fed up with communists and Russians, so part of the population clung to the fascists. If nothing else, I would give the Finns the Nobel Prize for choosing the right political ideology for their nation. They really couldn’t have chosen better. But to these interesting political intrigues, the creators added some awkward love story, which I really didn’t enjoy. Overall, the story was weird, and I had a problem to finish the whole two-hour-long movie. But I was happy with the Finnish language, which sometimes switched into Swedish. If it was due to historical development, then the creators incorporated it quite nicely. But that’s probably the only significant positive to the whole film.

Viva Riva ! (2010)

inglês An interesting peek into the life in the Congo. But for me, this peek was incomprehensible and difficult to digest. It’s definitely an interesting movie, but it’s definitely not something I would choose to watch next time. Brutality, aggression and cruel reality all in one film make for a quite challenging watching experience.

O Padrinho: Parte II (1974)

inglês This mafia opus confirms its quality in the second part as well. Although Al Pacino is not Marlon Brando, the whole story of one mob family is still absolutely incredible. The five-star rating is indisputable here. Where else will a director offer you a better insight into the life of mobsters than in this film?
