Edwin Boyd (2011)

inglês When I was watching this movie, I somehow came to the opinion that Canada can take even a decent premise and sink it in the ash heap of history. Edwin Boyd: Citizen Gangster could have been an interesting movie, Max Richter made the perfect background music for it and the actors weren’t that bad, but it’s just boring. The filmmaking is awful and at times, it’s impossible to watch. Despite the fact that the premise wasn’t bad at all. But that’s not the first time I’ve seen that when it comes to Canada.

Restless (2011)

inglês Restless is a movie that’s very similar to 50/50. Very charismatic actors, an interesting life story and especially that final joy of life takes it a level higher, for sure. It was very pleasant to watch and if I’m ever feeling blue, this movie is definitely the first one I watch, because I know it’ll definitely lift my spirits. I mean, especially Mia Wasikowska has been uplifting, because her optimistic character was incredibly great.

The Trouble with Bliss (2011)

inglês Michael C. Hall seemed like a great basis for this movie. But the end result is something completely useless and I wouldn’t have missed anything if I hadn’t watched it. At least I cleaned my computer, cleaned around the house and fixed whatever I could during the movie. That’s all this movie’s good for.

Magic Beyond Words: The J.K. Rowling Story (2011) (filme de TV)

inglês A very pleasant movie that doesn’t answer everything I’d like it to answer. In any case, it’s a must for Harry Potter fans and once you live your entire life in Harry Potter’s years and the character ages along with you, it makes you think about it all. Would Harry Potter have come to life if J. K. Rowling hadn’t gone through all that she’s gone through? Everything’s just a huge coincidence that created something that our generation will think about for the rest of their lives.

A Insustentável Leveza do Ser (1988)

inglês I must admit that I only gave this that one star to reward that the authors attempted to create the perfect Prague atmosphere, but those cameras that filmed it haven’t even brushed up against Prague. Those Czech signs and the spirit of Czech streets is just not enough to turn the set into Czech Republic. That’s simply not possible. Everything else was wrong and the worst thing about it was the fact that it was awful, truly awful three hours of boredom.

50/50 (2011)

inglês A movie about life, about everyday reality, problems that need solving and about not surrendering life like it’s some stupid game of tag. 50/50 is a great movie, a brutal tear-jerker, but it was very pleasant to watch. Especially because of the actors who were being just the way I want to know them; being true to themselves and distinctive. Everything in this movie was the right fit and once again, I was able to watch a movie that results in a tremendous joy of life. And that’ll really lift your spirits…

Dag och natt (2004)

inglês Absolutely amazing, precise, in a way even a perfect movie about a character who is damn far from such words. The director filmed the movie in an amazing and an incredible way. In fact, in those 95 minutes, you will be introduced to the life of one person from the point of view of a car dashboard, either shooting him or the passenger. You don’t know what exactly happened, there’s just a series of apologies, which ends with a shot in the head. This is not a spoiler; the movie reveals it at the very beginning. The truly interesting things happen in the next 93 minutes. The dialogue was so perfect that I had to constantly think about the character’s life. Mikael Persbrandt showcased an absolutely perfect performance. All that was left for me to do was stare. And all that was shot from the point of view of two static cameras. Hats off. Even such simple but incredibly original movies can force you to just stare with your mouth wide open.

Os Compadres (1983)

inglês What would we ever do if the 1970s and 1980s French movie era didn’t exist, back when they used to alternate between great comedies and not less great crime investigation flicks? I mean, everyone would surely mourn for those. The nicest thing about it is the fact that the movies still bring people joy, even to this day, thirty years after they were filmed in France. And that’s truly beautiful.

007: Skyfall (2012)

inglês I’ve always thought that Bond was a great guy who simply kills everybody and escapes even an earthquake epicenter in the blink of an eye, all while living in an absolutely unrealistic environment governed by the British MI5. That’s how it always used to be before Daniel Craig came along and added realness to the Bond toughness; realness that I’ve always missed. For example, Casino Royale is already perfect, I consider it to be the best Bond movie. The subsequent Quantum of Solace was a yawnfest and it was necessary for the authors to step up and film something… something simply unforgettable that would bring a bit of elegance into the saga. Skyfall is a not-so-realistic realistic not-so-Bond Bond movie. Bond isn’t such a champ as we know him anymore and at times, we even get worried about him. But there are still scenes that haven’t even as much as brushed up against the reality of the modern day. But even so, it’s still great fun. There’s loads of action. And even if it’s just decent, it’s still entertaining. Sam Mendes is an amazing director and you simply can’t take that away from him. The story isn’t that bad either and at last, a contemporary Bond returns to the past. But without a doubt, the best thing about the entire movie was Javier Bardem. I’ve only seen a villain this great in Batman, back when Joker appeared in the new series. And back then, I thought that such a villain could never be topped. But partly, the rating is actually this high because of him. It’d be boring without him. And don’t even get me started on the ending. The third Daniel Craig movie is just very well done. It’s not such a shocker anymore like Casino Royale was, but it’s still a really pleasant entertainment that attempts to be realistic, but it’s still just for fun. But Bond will never be any other way, so who cares?
