Baseado num best-seller, situado num quartel americano de Pearl Harbour pouco antes do ataque japonês, Até à Eternidade é menos um filme de guerra do que um estudo sobre as frustrações sexuais dos diversos protagonistas. Foi um dos filmes mais premiados nos Oscars da Academia, nomeadamente o prémio de melhor filme, melhor realizador, melhor actor secundário (Frank Sinatra), melhor actriz secundária (Donna Reed), melhor argumento adaptado, melhor fotografia, melhor som e melhor montagem. Currently, it is no longer a film that works as well as it did sixty years ago. It is a response to Pearl Harbor, but also to the problems that existed and still exist in the army. Montgomery Clift once again shows what a great actor he was and how well he was watched in every role. Men, in general, take the lead in this film, both in terms of acting and not just quantitatively.

A great classic that fully deserves the label. A strong story, excellent actors and the constant threat of war hanging in the air, which finally strikes and shakes everything up. The film would have greatly benefited from a more lavish widescreen format.
