A Viagem

Tommy Wirkola lida com crises conjugais de forma diferente do que Woody Allen. Igualmente engraçada e criativa, mas muuuito diferente. O que me fez lembrar por que gosto tanto de filmes bem-feitos de cineastas competentes que gostam de fazer o seu trabalho e têm boas intenções connosco, o público. A viagem é a versão norueguesa de filmes de género americano onde tudo fica inesperadamente complicado e sangue aparece. Muito de humor negro e sério, grotescamente brutal e com alma. Não completamente original no assunto, mas inventiva nos personagens e as suas camisolas. Apesar da sua simplicidade inicial, é no final nutritivamente editado e escalado exatamente como o espetador satisfeito exige. O elenco é excelente! (29/10/2021)

We already know that Tommy Wirkola is talented and even though this time he chose a more intimate film than his previous works, it works well, even if I have minor complaints. It's a bit of a variation on the Russian film Why Don't You Just Die!, but more in tone, style and brutality than in concept. A married couple go to a cabin with the intention of killing each other, and this is complicated by an unexpected visit from three idiots. The pacing is slower and the humour works about halfway. It's a kind of adult humour where serious topics are discussed with a light and black-humored tone so it depends on taste, I would have liked something a little different and would definitely have cut the film by about 30 minutes. When it came to the violence, however, Wirkola is nicely brutal, spares no great ideas and makes great use of all the tools around him (though there are a couple of sequences that are just a tease, like the one with the shotgun and the one with the lawnmower). Overall, decent and entertaining, but I was slightly hoping to be a bit more satisfied. Check it out, it's really funny, he said. And although it's not a comedy the way I normally think of them, he was right. The comic aspect here, among other things, works brilliantly. The characters are likable and lukewarm at the same time, making for a rather unique spectacle that you definitely don't want to walk away from. (14/12/2021)

A cynical comedy, subversive and bloody, thanks to Wirkola. After years of marriage, a married couple can’t stand being together after all these years and so each of them invites the other to their country cottage with the aim of killing them. Rapace is splendidly two-faced and Hennie’s transformation over the course of the second half is worthy of praise. The occasional explanatory asides that this movie is peppered with don’t seem to be cheap helpers, but carry a large portion of typical Norwegian humor inside them. The ending is a perfect reflection of today’s society. (22/10/2021)

I had fun, but during the final half hour, which just stretched everything unnecessarily, I got over my enjoyment. If they could manage to condense the story more and the film was 30 minutes shorter, I would definitely be happier. Either way, this silliness is worth seeing, whether you're a fan of Tommy Wirkola, Noomi Rapace or just this quirky "Tarantino-light" genre. (17/10/2021)

The Trip is a relationship therapy performed by Norwegian butcher Tommy Wirkola. It's funny, apt, it's set in an amazing environment and it's totally over the top at times. A very refreshing movie. (26/06/2022)

An excellent film that will have you laughing out loud, unless you’re a sensitive person in which case it’ll make you sick to your stomach. The Norwegian filmmakers went all out and punched up what could have been a run-of-the-mill home invasion so well that it would make even Quentin Tarantino proud. But he probably would have wished there were two hours more of talking:-) It was a very violent film, parts of human anatomy were cruelly cut, stabbed, shot, chopped, torn, and shattered, lying around in both a solid and a semi-liquid state, and yet there was still room for a considerable amount of quality (mostly black) humor. If Noomi Rapace's character hadn’t exhibited T-1000 resistance, I would have given the movie five stars. But it still deserves a strong four. 4*+ (13/01/2022)
