A Mãe e a Puta é uma variação do clássico triângulo amoroso (e muito se escreveu sobre o que nele há de biográfico, mas não é isso que importa): Alexandre (Jean-Pierre Léaud) é um jovem ocioso, mas sempre ocupado, que deambula pelos cafés de Paris, vive no pequeno apartamento de Marie (Bernardette Lafont), e inicia uma ligação amorosa com Veronika (Françoise Lebrun), enfermeira no hospital Laenec. E aí começa uma espécie de ménage à trois que, entre sentimentos e pulsões fortes, acaba por se tornar tensa e insustentável. (Leopardo Filmes)

The Mother and the Whore is an essential “French gab-fest”, but unlike most of its successors and imitators (including Wes Anderson), it not only doesn’t take itself so deadly seriously, but it also doesn’t hesitate to step into the waters of disarming immediacy and shallowness. As a result, this mammoth film about the delicate subject of amorous relationships can be simultaneously romantic and caustic, as well as tragic and playful.

A long movie where there is a lot of talking, of course passionately, and everything makes sense. However, I still didn't enjoy it and it just seemed too long to me. I would rather watch "Titanic" again than this, and I never had to watch "Titanic". I guess it's because of how influenced I am by the American style of filmmaking and approach to movies.
