Easy-going Mari Collingwood and her fun-loving friend Phyllis are on their way to a Bloodlust concert to celebrate Mari's 17th birthday when three escaped convicts kidnap and torture them. But Mari and Phyllis are fighters, and although they are drugged and beaten into unconsciousness, stuffed into a car trunk and driven into the woods for even more brutality, they are still alive... but for how long? Terá um pai o direito de executar o assassino do seu filho? Um tópico para uma discussão aprofundada e um tema para um filme sério (ver A Fonte da Virgem de Ingmar Bergman). Só que o realizador Wes Craven e o produtor Sean S. Cunningham não queriam fazer um filme sério. Misturam humilhação sexual e violência chocante contra o homem com música hippie divertida e atuações cómicas de polícias estúpidos de uma cidade pequena. E, ao fazê-lo, subvertem de forma interessante os clichés estilísticos dos filmes da era dos filhos das flores, mas afundam a sua obra na lama da provocação barata através do amadorismo cinematográfico.

2.5* rather. This film’s biggest problem was my expectations of radical and raw horror, the kind that would be unbearable for people of a weaker nature. What I got instead was some sort of harsher crime-drama that is deliberately lightened-up in every other scene. On paper, the behaviour of the victims, the killers and the parents may look credible, but most of the performances are so terrible that the characters have hardly any effect on the viewer (and it could have been very impressive if at least the parents transmitted sadness, despair or rage). The comedy relief by the two incompetent cops is something I wish I hadn’t seen, it’s hard to imagine anything more out of place in a film like this.
