This movie is simply bad. The characters could be interesting, but the film shouldn't take itself so seriously. But even then, you'd realize that they're not particularly original, just those classic ones you often find in a pub in a movie. Technically, it's quite poor, so maybe that's why there are minimal special effects, not to mention the masks. A bit of gore doesn't save much, just like a bit of erotica doesn't save anything; it may seem edgier, but in reality, it's still soft.
