Ilo Ilo retrata a relação entre a família Lim e da sua nova criada, Teresa. Como muitas filipinas, Teresa chegou a Singapura à procura de uma vida melhor. Mas a sua presença piora a já tensa relação entre os vários membros da família. Mas Jiale, o filho pequeno e traquina, acaba por criar laços com Teresa, que se torna parte da família. Mas estamos em 1997 e a crise financeira asiática começa a sentir-se na região. (Midas Filmes)

This is a film from Singapore, in co-production with other countries, that shows that it is possible to make powerful, albeit very intimate, films in the country. Actually, just a story about one woman and one boy, nothing more. Yet it still manages to captivate you and at times literally anchor you in the place where you are sitting and watching the film. This is very good.
