Berlim 1940. A cidade está paralisada pelo medo. Otto e Anna Quangel são um casal da classe operária a viver num apartamento modesto tentando, como toda a gente, colocar-se fora dos problemas sob o regime nazista. Mas quando o seu único filho é morto a lutar contra o regime, a sua perda leva-os num ato extraordinário de resistência. Começam a espalhar cartas anónimas por toda a cidade atacando Hitler e o seu regime. Se forem apanhados, significa imediata execução. Rapidamente a campanha chama a atenção do inspector da Gestapo, Escherich e começa o jogo mortal da caça ao homem. Mas o jogo serve apenas para reforçar o sentimento de Otto e Anna sobre o propósito da vida e do amor renovado sobre o próximo. Lentamente, as suas vidas monótonas e o seu casamento são transformados pela maneira como se unem na sua rebelião tranquila, mas profunda... (RTP)

So far the latest adaptation of the famous novel by Hans Fallada "Alone in Berlin" (1947). Given that the German adaptations from the 60s and 70s have aged somewhat, and the Czech television miniseries (although excellent) never had an international outreach from the essence of the genre, it is very important that the topic has returned in this form. Emma Thompson, Brendan Gleeson, and Daniel Brühl offer excellent internal acting, the set design did not fail in any way, and the question of resistance was raised again.

Films about World War II always manage to captivate me in some way, so even this slow-paced movie, which could have been a bit more intense, slightly rises above average for me and compelled me to watch it, at times even with bated breath. Although focused on the spouses, the most interesting character is Daniel Brühl's.
