In the spring of 1935, Japan established a secret base, Unit 731 in Manchuria, where many innocent Chinese, Korean and Mongolian people were killed in grotesque experiments. An idealistic young doctor , Morishima, is horrified by the experiments being performed in the camp and when his fiancée arrives disguised as a Chinese prisoner he sets out to liberate the camp. Uma reflexão pretensamente séria sobre o destino de um soldado-médico japonês num campo militar, onde são feitas experiências cruéis nas pessoas. A linha dramática da história - o amor do soldado por uma rapariga a quilómetros de distância - não falta no argumento, mas o tratamento é tão espasmódico e ingénuo que o filme é quase impossível de ver. Uma estrela apenas por uma indicação de qualquer mensagem de reflexão. As cenas nojentas aqui são realmente nojentas.

Maruta 2: Laboratory of the Devil is a big disappointment for me and just shows that some cults are created based on movies that don't deserve it at all. It could have been due to the time period in which it was made when there weren't many similar films, but I don't think that was the case. Perhaps it intrigued with the element of the experimental laboratory and those creepy, albeit not very explicit, experiments that unfold here. I can't really explain it any other way.
