Scontri stellari oltre la terza dimensione (1978)

inglês John Barry's excellent score didn't deserve this rubbish. A rip-off of Star Wars (there's even a lightsaber!), Star Trek(s), Barbarella, Alien and who knows what else... With not-quite-so-over-the-top special effects, fetishistic costumes of the main character, a charmingly dumb script, stop-motion animation that doesn't even come close to Ray Harryhausen's work... Seeing it with someone, somewhere, I'd probably have more fun. Seeing it solo, however, was not great. I found myself expecting the whole thing to devolve into porn during the Planet of the Amazons episode, but it didn't. Alas? Thank god? It's hard to say.

Par ou Ímpar (1978)

inglês This is one of those Spencer-Hill pieces that, if it were shorter, would be a lot better. In this way, the number of really funny moments (and there are plenty) is almost equaled by the number of unnecessary and moments often bordering on awkward, in which not much interesting happens. Odds and Evens has always been all about the truck theft (and the waking of the wanderer), the perfect ice cream scene and the final battle with the double grounding of the poor Greek gambler, which are really great moments. It is also worth mentioning that this time we hear Bud Spencer with unique dubbing by the grumpy Josef Větrovec: "Yes. When I'm asleep and someone suddenly wakes me up, I always cry. Next. When I cry, I get angry. And when I get angry, I have to get up. And when I get up, I get mad, and when I get mad... I then have to relax." - "If you didn't cry, you'd have an easier time of it.

Frankenstein (1931)

inglês I don't know what it is, but I remember Frankenstein being much more impressive... The opening half hour in particular is almost boring in places. But with Boris Karloff, my need to yawn disappears, the scene with the little girl makes me shudder, and the finale with the mill is perfect. And did you know that it was only today that I realized that there is no music in the film?__P.S. Again, I know the comparison is unfair, but the version made by Kenneth Branagh is unbeatable.

Daisy Town (1971)

inglês "Why are you mouthing off when the dance of death is being played? Are you prisoners?" Great fun, comparable to the adventures of Asterix. There's an idea or a joke in every scene, but my favorite scenes were and still are the Indians painting themselves with war paint and the preparations for a four-against-one fight, which parodied Sergio Leone back in the days when it was far from a necessity in western parodies. And the film has excellent original Czechoslovak dubbing (František Němec as Lucky Luke, narrated by Vladimír Brabec and Jaroslav Moučka as the idiot Dalton)!

Quatro Punhos Contra Rio (1984)

inglês One of my favorite movies with Bud Spencer and Terence Hill. Maybe because there is twice as much them in the film. The two of them are full of irresistible and often very well-pointed humor, and they clearly enjoyed the double role (especially Bud Spencer in the final brawl, when he, as a millionaire, is afraid to deliver his typical punches). And that addictive theme melody that I can't get out of my head... That's great. "Take us to the airport, then come back here and take us home."

Boundin' (2003)

inglês Definitely the weirdest Pixar short. It’s a wacky and brilliantly animated fable with catchy music and a clear message that nothing is really that bad, you can get used to everything and still get something out of it (although maybe the message is completely different) - you just have to want to. I recommend the version with dubbing by Tomáš Hanák, which is even stranger than the original.

No Time for Nuts (2006)

inglês This is a barrage of original ideas, jokes; everything. We also get to see a time paradox and a brilliant joke with a pissed off David. I wonder why Scrat doesn't have his own movie yet when a lot of people watch Ice Age anyway mostly because of him.

Evidence (1995)

inglês The expressions of the child zombies… Creepy. The final twist is hackneyed but still relevant (and increasingly so). Philip Glass is brilliant again.

The Last Days of Patton (1986) (filme de TV)

inglês I was expecting a TV epilogue to a memorable film, and I ended up getting so much more. A full-fledged film that you will enjoy even if you don't know Patton (meaning the film). The brilliant George C. Scott guarantees a great spectacle, who obviously returned to the role with great gusto, and so does the script, which, as with the first film, is based on Ladislas Farago's book. Set after the war, we see Patton managing Bavaria, refusing to denazify Germany and arguing with Ike, Patton transferred... And finally, Patton, wounded and dying. A very human and moving dying man, with sensitive flashbacks to his youth, memories of his family... Initially, The Last Days of Patton is rather political, but by the second half (roughly after the General sings a shanty about Piccadilly Lilly at his birthday party) it's a moving human drama about a man who is, despite the circumstances, unbreakable. Don't be scared of the TV format, and never-mind the runtime.

Mr. Popper's Penguins (2011)

inglês Childish, yes, but fortunately that doesn't mean in this case that it’s not entertaining. Mr. Popper and his penguins are quite a likable bunch, which amused even me, and that's saying something for a contemporary comedy with animals. Jim Carrey restrained himself this time, which is a good thing, because I enjoyed every gag in his performance all the more (for example, the scene with the mobile phone in the blender made me roar with laughter, the silhouette of the penguin swimming through the bathroom door, etc.). The penguins, though digital, are also good. Their wandering around the city (accompanied or not) has some good ideas, and if it weren't for a few unnecessary "jokes" with their, um, excretion, I wouldn't have a single complaint. But who I liked as much as them, in fact, quite possibly even more, was Ophelia Lovibond in the endearing role of Popper's secretary, who says as many words beginning with the letter "P" in her sentences as her dictionary will allow (and I have to admit that our subtitles did a good job with this joke).
