As Serviçais (2011)

inglês It's not as unequivocally great as, say, Spielberg's The Color Purple, but it's more than good enough. And not black and white at all. The script artfully mixes poignant stories with sensitive humor and doesn't need to show violence and other atrocities (which it certainly could have shown) to tell us what it wants to tell us. Moreover, it is not only about the theme of different skin colors, but also a pretty good critique of interpersonal and family relationships... You almost get the feeling that this film has everything. Including the somewhat bitter ending, which is even harsher in the book (and should have been in the film, see the omitted scenes on the DVD). Both of the main black actresses were amazing, and I really liked Emma Stone too, but I was absolutely thrilled with Jessica Chastain! The story of her uniquely acted character, about whom I didn't know what to think at first, ended up impressing me the most. Two hours and twenty minutes passed by like an hour and a half.

Zelig (1983)

inglês Zelig is a devilishly funny and intelligent film that I simply fell in love with. A finely honed mystification and parody full of great ideas and unforgettable scenes. I'm thrilled - the misery is there and I may never have to see Forrest Gump again. Another five star for Woody Allen. "Two bigoted idiot American morons and criminal shitheads have ruined a great joke for our Führer..."

00:30 A Hora Negra (2012)

inglês I have my own thoughts about the hunt for Osama and especially its "successful conclusion". There are still many question marks around the whole famous tracking down, shooting and "burying" in the sea, so I was hoping that there would be some question marks in the film. There weren’t. It wasn't made by Oliver Stone. Instead, the result is a two and a half hour long and sometimes really boring American propaganda film that relies on good acting, Desplat's music and the fact that when the viewer sees the final, very well shot action, he will forgive a lot. To be honest, I give not the originally intended two, but three stars for these pros. But I'm definitely not happy. I like Kathryn Bigelow's previous film, which I was also not impressed with, a bit more.__P.S. What would the ending have to be in Zero Dark Thirty for me to give it one more star? Agent Maya approaches the body bag, unzips it, one of the soldiers asks her if it's bin Laden, Maya doesn't answer. Blackout, end credits. Then I'd be much happier.

9 rota (2005)

inglês A sweeping Russian war film. Too sweeping. And it looks too American to be Russian. Yes, at times it's very big and almost admirable, but at other times it's terribly theatrical, awkward and boring. And I had trouble distinguishing the main characters, which always bothers me. The Czech film Tobruk turned out much, much better.

Wolverine (2013)

inglês It's a shame, but The Wolverine didn't do it for me. Not that this movie was outright bad, but I enjoyed it a little less than the last Origins and a lot less than the first two installments of the saga. Hugh Jackman tries really hard, he loves Logan and knows what fans want to see and hear. But unfortunately, the futile script makes it difficult for him. The plot was inspired by the excellent comic book by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, but it basically took only the names of the characters, Japan and a few situations. It did not use the powerful yet simple story. Instead, the film is at times overwrought and at times too simple, the intimate moments between Wolverine and Mariko are probably the best, and of the action scenes I liked the one on the express train the best. The rest was pretty much short and stout in terms of imagination or Wolverine's rampage (the school ambush scene from X-Men 2, where Wolverine is at his most Wolverine-like, still leads in this regard). Apart from the opening in Nagasaki, this time there were no moments to remember, which the previous film was in fact full of. And where did the fun go? Who knows... A few good lines (about three) and nothing else. The ending was ridiculous, and clearly the best moment of the whole film came in the middle of the credits. Actually, I think Wolverine was filmed just for that scene and so Marco Beltrami could compose another good soundtrack.

Ataque ao Poder (2013)

inglês The most honest and entertaining action movie of recent years. Unlike other films winking at the action glory of years past, White House Down has one big advantage - it feels completely natural, unforced, not trying to tell us in every other minute: "Look, we borrowed this scene from here and this one from somewhere else. Laugh, please." And it was made by Roland Emmerich, who may be the last person from whom anyone would expect such excellent and imaginative shootouts (which this time play a bigger role than mammoth digital destruction)... But just think of his Universal Soldier and it becomes clear that the director is at home here too. But besides action, he brought out another important weapon - humor. Lots of humor. Perfectly timed gags (zombies in a limo), verbal shootouts, funny characters that aren't stupid (the White House tour guide). I don't even have a single complaint about the actors, starting with Channing Tatum (he earned McClane's undershirt) and ending with James Woods and the whole charismatic bad guy gang. Not to mention a cleverly written story that can surprise. I give it five stars, and I'd love it if Roland Emmerich made Tom Clancy's “Rainbow Six".

Nati con la camicia (1983)

inglês It has some very good moments, such as the arrival of the wealthy Texans at the hotel and the perfectly obvious boarding of the baggage cart, but otherwise Go For It is quite possibly the worst Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill film I've seen. I had never seen it up to this point and I have not missed anything crucial. You can tell from a number of moments that it was supposed to be a parody of spy movies (the "Bond" music suggests this), but that didn't work very well. Humor has been overtaken by awkwardness.

Os Brutamontes (2011)

inglês If you're familiar with the excellent film Slap Shot with Paul Newman, then... this is pretty much the same thing, only about 1000% more vulgar. Were it a different film I would probably be bothered by such an excess of swearing, but it suits the hockey environment. Apart from the titular dumb hero, who is always going his own way, I really, really, really (and come to think of it, actually much more in the end) liked the goon played by Liev Schreiber. Maybe because he reminded me so much of the Pilsen goon Ryan Hollweg. I enjoyed myself to the tune of four stars, which was aided by many of the comments made by the sports commentator.

R.I.P.D.: Agentes do Outro Mundo (2013)

inglês An unpretentious one-off spectacle that mixes Men in Black with Hellboy and sometimes Van Helsing rather than the oft-mentioned Ghostbusters. It's not a total failure, as Robert Schwentke is able to film frantic action scenes (the camera is constantly moving, but thankfully not shaking cheaply) and more intimate moments very engagingly. For example, the scene in which the main character dies literally took my breath away. Beck's pleasantly breezy listenable music works in the same way. And the actors are also good. Jeff Bridges may try a little too hard at times, but he manages to be entertaining for most of the film. Ryan Reynolds is sympathetic. But the script - again! I don't like it when filmmakers say: "Hmm, we have a rather original idea about dead cops, so the rest may does not have to be as original." After Nick Walker joins R.I.P.D., virtually nothing happens that we haven't seen before. And what a waste of such a wonderful world, where Marlowe detectives, British constables and Wild West sheriffs sit side by side in the police station! And in general, the world and the idea that the dead and the undead run among the living seemed to me somehow undeveloped and full of question marks. Shameful. This is how you throw away an opportunity to make a fun summer flick. Instead, we watch an ordinary buddy movie full of various quality gimmicks, in which the (initially good) joke is endlessly repeated, with mortals seeing Bridges as a blonde beauty and Reynolds as a little Chinese man. The film was purely average, but I don't particularly mind it.

Starter for Ten (2006)

inglês A well-balanced mix of comedy, romance and drama with a soundtrack that couldn't possibly be bad, given that the film is set in 1980s Britain. Of the actors, I was most pleased with the excellent Benedict Cumberbatch, whose every look was worth it, and of the actresses, Rebecca Hall did it for me. The end of the knowledge competition was perfect.
