Tough guy Thomas Beckett is an US soldier working in the Panamanian jungle. His job is to seek out rebels and remove them using his sniper skills. Beckett is notorious for losing his partners on such missions. This time he's accompanied by crack marksman Richard Miller, who's more of an office-type. Together they plan to seek out an important rebel leader, whilst avoiding a rogue marksman who frequents this part of the jungle. (TriStar Pictures)

No final, Llosa consegue deixar o espetador emocionado, tenso e catártico enquanto expulsa os vilões. Na altura do seu lançamento, poderia tê-la classificado melhor como uma estrela a mais. Hoje, no entanto, Beckett — O Atirador parece muito cinzento, por vezes aborrecido, e sobretudo grita mais fraquezas do filme B, que são regidas pela música terrivelmente artificial de Chang. Os filmes de Rambo tiveram Sylvester, o ritmo, e os motivos de Jerry Goldsmith. Este é apenas uma fraca infusão deles.

In 1993, was it possible to see slow motion shots of a bullet? Well, that is definitely something you don't see every day. And yet, it actually works for those crazy people. The story about the sniper in the jungle is quite ordinary, but the overall concept and the effort to come up with something new caught my attention. Therefore, I give it a higher rating. Maybe someone will notice and agree with me.
