After refusing to obey a senior surgeon, JOHN LAKE, an American volunteer doctor in Laos, is instructed to take a leave of absence. To regroup, he travels to a remote island in the south of Laos. The solace of the island is shattered when John intervenes in the sexual assault of a young Laotian woman, accidentally killing her assailant. Horrified by the violence and the prospect of being sent to prison, John panics and flees. He soon discovers that he's wanted not only for the murder of an Australian Senator's son, but also for the rape of the very woman he saved. Uma viagem «survival» perfeita através dos sentimentos interiores dum homem assustado com um bom coração, que cometeu um erro grande demais e quer salvar-se. Realista, emotivo, pensativo, continuamente cheio de tensão. E brilhantemente interpretado por Rossif Sutherland, que está non-stop em frente da câmara. O final poderia ter sido resolvido de uma forma melhor, mais sombria e psicológica, mas mesmo assim, é um grande filme.

I can't help it, but this film seemed to me like something that has the potential to be a proper thriller, but in the end, it's just a personal drama with unbelievably slow pace that I found repulsive. The setting is interesting, but only used as a backdrop and for comprehension issues. In my opinion, this film doesn't offer anything great.
